About Carolyn
Education has always been a priority for me. We have generations of educators in my family. As a young student myself, I moved several times throughout my K-12 years, and this allowed me to experience different academic systems across the United States. My entire educational journey has taken me from Hawaii to New Jersey, Texas, Colorado, Virginia, Arizona, China, and California. As a result, I have experienced firsthand the wide-ranging methodologies and socio-cultural landscapes that mold students’ educational pathways.
I completed my undergraduate degree from the oldest Interdisciplinary Studies program in the United States. At the time, it was one of only a few programs in America that taught students to bring their passions together through analyzing the connections across disciplines. While this was the perfect program for me, it was not easy for me to find! I searched universities all over the world, and finally I discovered my academic dream. At the time, ‘Interdisciplinary Studies’ was not a widely-known path on college campuses, but now this movement has become the norm. Currently, almost all universities in the US are moving their campuses in the direction of interdisciplinary methods.
When I was in college, I worked with other students as an Academic Advisor. I realized that many students had simply chosen fields of study without really understanding what their professional careers might look like. In fact, many had not thought much further than graduation.
After I completed my master’s degree, I began teaching college courses. It was then that I realized, first as a student and then as an instructor, how many people were seeking educational pathways that were not aligned with their passions and vision. Remembering how difficult it was for me to find my dream program, I decided to start working with individual students again to help them design and navigate their educational journeys.
My Mission
I seek to help people locate and navigate their academic journeys in ways that make sense for them. With infinite educational paths, the world is more specialized than ever before. I believe that a meaningful education allows people to specialize themselves to become more sustainable— professionally, strategically, financially, and emotionally.
I believe that we can affect more positive change in the world if we can more effectively help people find and pursue their passions. Choosing an educational path is about a lot more than picking a discipline and going to classes. It’s a transformational process that allows people to explore themselves and their vision for the future. I am here to assemble a plan, relieve stress, improve confidence, and get students on their way to a new phase of their lives.
Values
I think that choosing the right academic program can change a person’s life for the better. It’s not just about gaining admission to the most competitive schools. Instead, it’s about gaining admission to the schools that are a good fit for the student.
Credentials
I have been providing academic support to students for almost 20 years. First as a researcher, then as an academic advisor, and finally as a university instructor. I’ve worked with students from foreign language backgrounds, and plenty who have significant learning differences. I have been providing college admissions support and assistance with private school placement for the past 13 years.
